CARMEL MEDIATOR DISCUSSES DIVORCE RATES ON WIBC MORNING NEWS
CARMEL, IN – January 8, 2008 – Attorney and Mediator, Stephenie S. Jocham was a guest of Terri & Big Joe on 93.1 WIBC Morning News where she discussed current economic issues affecting divorce rates. While the first week of January is historically the busiest week each year for divorce filings, the interview focused on the new national statistics showing a decrease in divorces as a result of the recession. One of the topics Ms. Jocham addressed is the need to inform prospective clients about less expensive options including mediation and collaborative law, which are less costly, financially and emotionally, for parties considering divorce or dealing with family law matters.
Ms. Jocham is a founding member of Carmel law firm JOCHAM HARDEN DIMICK JACKSON, PC, where she practices in family law and civil litigation, serving as Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section. As a registered domestic and civil mediator, she concentrates on providing mediation, arbitration and collaborative law services for her clients. She earned her Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis and her undergraduate degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She has been a featured speaker on topics of interest in the areas of family law and alternative dispute resolution including: Hot Tips from Hot Attorneys (June 2007); Family Law Arbitration (October 2006); and Pro Se Mediation – A Mediator’s Perspective (January 2006). She also periodically conducts mediation training (Public Policy Mediation Training, IU School of Law–Indianapolis, August 2005, January 2006, August 2007, August 2008).
Ms. Jocham is active in her community, volunteering for the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Ask a Lawyer and Legal Line programs and for a crisis intervention hotline. She has provided pro bono and reduced cost legal representation for clients through Heartland Pro Bono Council and the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Modest Means Program. Previously, she served for several years through the Junior Leagues of Evansville and Indianapolis. Ms. Jocham currently serves on the National Alumnae Board of her alma mater, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
