JHDJ Law Attorneys Stephenie Jocham and Michele Jackson, along with Director of Business Development, Amber Burton Small, will be part of a group of 8 volunteers spending Thanksgiving week working in orphanages in Nicaragua. The trip is being coordinated through The Fatherless Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charity founded by Michele Jackson, who also chairs the law firm’s Adoption Practice Group providing domestic and international adoption services.
The group will be arriving in Managua, Nicaragua on Tuesday November 24, staying until November 29 over the Thanksgiving holiday. During their stay, the group will visit three orphanages to work with more than 100 children and distribute clothing, toys, medical and school supplies. The group will also be working in conjunction with Puedo Leer Library to host a baseball clinic in the community of Granada. Baseball is a popular sport in Nicaragua and the Library will be using the clinic to promote literacy by focusing on baseball-related books and materials leading up to this event. Our group will be providing sports books, baseballs, bats, gloves and hats to the children.
In anticipation of the trip, JHDJ Law will be accepting donations of baseball equipment, baby and children’s clothing, toys, school supplies, toiletries for children and over the counter medicines and health care supplies. Examples of items include:
• Gently used or new clothing for infants and children: ages 1-15 (preferably summer items or light winter)
• School supplies (pencils, crayons, folders, backpacks, kid scissors, notepaper, tablets, etc.)
• Over the counter medicines for babies and children (Tylenol, aspirin, band-aids, etc.)
• Hygiene items for babies and children (lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes).
JHDJ Law will also accept monetary donations for the orphanages to enable them to buy supplies directly and for food and other operating expenses. Checks should be made payable to The Fatherless Foundation.
Supplies and monetary donations may be dropped off at our offices at 631 N Rangeline Rd Street, Suite 200, Carmel, Indiana 46032 through Friday, November 20, 2009.
The Fatherless Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization seeking to assist abandoned and orphaned children worldwide by raising funds and providing food, clothing, school supplies and medical care to orphans as well as financial grants to parents adopting internationally.
